【摘要】:Thistestmethodwasdevelopedandtheinstrumentcalibratedusinggroundsoilsfromthesiteofanuclearmaterialsplant.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtomeasuretheextentofcontaminationfromuraniumandthoriumingroundsoils.Sincethedetectionlimitofthistechnique(nominally20x03BC;gpergram)approachestypicalbackgroundlevelsforthesecontaminants,themethodcanbeusedasaquickcharacterizationofanon-siteareatoindicatedpointsofcontamination.Thenaftercleanup,EDXRFmaybeusedtoverifytheeliminationofcontaminationorotheranalysismethods(suchascolorimetry,fluoremetry,phosphorescence,etc.)canbeusedifitisnecessarytotestforcleanupdowntoarequiredbackgroundlevel.Thistestmethodcanalsobeusedforthesegregationofsoillotsbyestablishedcontaminationlevelsduringon-siteconstructionandexcavation.1.1ThistestmethodcoverstheenergydispersiveX-rayfluorescence(EDXRF)spectrochemicalanalysisoftracelevelsofuraniumandthoriuminsoils.Anysamplematrixthatdiffersfromthegeneralgroundsoilcompositionusedforcalibration(thatis,fertilizerorasampleofmostlyrock)wouldhavetobecalibratedseparatelytodeterminetheeffectofthedifferentmatrixcomposition.1.2Theanalysisisperformedafteraninitialdryingandgrindingofthesample,andtheresultsarereportedonadrybasis.Thesamplepreparationtechniqueusedincorporatesintothesampleanyrocksandorganicmaterialpresentinthesoil.Thistestmethodofsamplepreparationdiffersfromothertechniquesthatinvolvetumblingandsievingthesample.1.3Linearcalibrationisperformedoveraconcentrationrangefrom20to1000[mu]gpergramforuraniumandthorium.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Theinch-poundunitsinparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
